Corporate Volunteering

There has been a long tradition of businesses bringing groups to Cody Dock over the years to spend a day or more volunteering. We value these opportunities as volunteers are the beating heart of all that we do, getting stuck in whatever the weather with enthusiasm, commitment and good humour.

Who benefits?

Who gains most out of days like these? Well, the answer is simple: EVERYONE does. At Cody Dock have seen physical improvements take place which further the aims and ambitions of our project, there is also the benefit of creating new lasting relationships with the businesses and people we meet. We see these partnerships as a vital part of our continuing development and success as a project.

  • Employee volunteering helps build social capital by improving your image in the community, breaking down barriers between businesses and local people.
  • Volunteering activities can generate increased morale, motivation, commitment and performance.
  • Staff learn new skills which add value to their day-to-day role, and identify ways in which they may be able to further support the project though ‘professional’ volunteering using their specialist skills to help us in an advisory capacity.
  • Many volunteers who come along are local to our project, so their efforts result in an improvement in ‘their’ community.
  • Corporate volunteering is a wonderful way to encourage fresh perspectives and cohesion across departments, bringing together people from all levels and departments.
  • Businesses can also create stronger relationships with partner companies they work with by holding days such as these where they can work alongside colleagues in a joint venture.

Community Boat Restoration

We are in the process of stripping back and restoring our community boat – The River Princess. We are hoping that we will get the boat back into the water later this year so that it can be used to take local school children on educational trips along the River Lea – teaching them about the river – its history, the ecology and environment – from the vantage point of the river itself. It will also serve as an events space for hire and use by local groups and individuals as well as those further afield who wish to experience the Lea and the area it runs through.

Tasks involve stripping back surfaces, painting and general maintenance tasks. Volunteers with any experience in carpentry, electrics or plumbing particularly welcome!

Gardening activities across our site

Our gardens are a firm favourite with the local community who value the green space tucked within a hugely industrial area beside the River Lea.

We have 3 gardens which require watering, re-seeding, weeding, turning over, new planting and general maintenance activities.

General construction activities

There are lots of opportunities to get creative using hand tools, power tools and a little bit of creativity. Volunteers can help us with simple construction activities including new planters, seating and shelters, a new footpath and we are planning to create a bee hive area.

Activities

We have opportunities across a number of projects on our site that will give your group a satisfying and rewarding day of activity. We want to ensure that everyone feels comfortable with what they are doing; the important thing being that whilst your staff are carrying out tasks that will benefit our project, they are also having a good time and feel totally engaged with what they are doing.

Tasks are fully risk assessed and supervised and are suitable for all levels of ability. We have full public liability insurance in place. We are also happy to come to your workplace to talk to your staff about our project and the benefits of volunteering their time with us

We can accommodate groups of varying sizes although we would recommend a minimum size of 10 people and a maximum of 35. However, we have some flexibility with this. To find out more, book a date or to discuss your requirements please contact Liz by emailing [email protected] or calling 020 7473 0429 for a chat.

We charge £40 per head which covers materials, equipment, PPE (gloves etc). project planning, site visits, risk assessment and supervision throughout the day.

We can also provide a home cooked hearty lunch for £12 per head and why not finish off the day relaxing with a drink from our bar.

Below is a breakdown of the various tasks we have followed by a calendar of particular dates where we would welcome groups to help with a variety of activities. Outside of these dates we may be able to accommodate groups so please get in touch so we can plan your day to suit you.
