Learn how to get to grips with and make the most of iNaturalist – a citizen science biodiversity platform – for recording biodiversity in your local area. This workshop will introduce iNaturalist, explain how to use the app and website, discuss where iNaturalist sits within the broader infrastructure of biodiversity monitoring in the UK, and look at how users can maximise the utility of the services available.

The workshop will take place over the full day, with a presentation and workshop indoors in the morning and a practical session outdoors in the afternoon where participants can practice using iNaturalist and get troubleshooting advice. The workshop will be led by Joss Carr – Junior Naturalist at the Biological Recording Company and avid iNaturalist user for several years. Joss wrote his MSc thesis about iNaturalist biodiversity data, looking at where it fits in within the broader UK infrastructure for biodiversity monitoring. He has extensive experience talking to people about biological recording and iNaturalist, and is very keen on helping people get the most out of the platform.

This workshop is suited for iNaturalist users of any experience level: from those who have never used the platform to those who have racked up thousands of observations. There will be useful tips and tricks for all to benefit from. See you there!
