Frost Fair

Each year Cody Dock runs an inclusive seasonal market experience called Frost Fair.

Frost Fairs date back to as early as the 7th century, but most were held between the 17th and 19th centuries. Back then the River Thames frequently froze over and the ice was thick enough to set up a market on in the winter months.

The first recorded “Frost Fair” was in 1608. Activities included dancing, football, nine-pin bowling and unlicensed gambling! They would be a hive of activity and people would set up a festive market, including such things as barbers, fruit sellers, shoemakers and pubs.

As we head into the Festive Season and start thinking about giving and sharing, it is always nice to find unique handmade gifts and support your local creative community.

Come and join us to re-create a family friendly Frost Fair by the tidal River Lea. This is a free entry community event with stalls, outdoor games, live music, fire sculpture, choir singing, food & drink, a free cycle maintenance workshop and other activities.
