Natural Printing

This summer, on the 1st August, we were very excited to launch our first Cody Wilders workshop for ages 14-18 with Natural Printing! This was an opportunity to get to know our local urban wildlife through the artistic medium of natural dyeing and printing.

The workshop was led by the amazing Jess Jones who started off by taking us through some of the natural things that can be used to make dyes like Wode, Dandelion and even Avocado!

We also explored Cody Dock to see what we could find here:

We then had a go at using some natural dyes…

We used onion skin, beetroot and spinach for a range of colours and spent some time getting used to the dyeing technique – we experimented by tying our material in different ways using rubber bands and leaving the material in the dyes for varying amounts of time.  We were able to achieve a pop of colour by smashing blackberries directly onto the material

Once we felt confident with the technique, we each created our own t-shirt! Thanks to all our fabulous Cody Wilders for bringing such a fun energy to the workshop, we can’t wait to host the next one! If you would be interested in hosting a similar workshop with Jess, you can reach her at [email protected].
