City Nature Challenge 2023

Friday 28th April 2023, 10 am – 4 pm
(Free Event)

Get involved with this year’s City Nature Challenge and help us to record as much of the wildlife of the local area as possible. We will be hosting a series of free drop-in events throughout the day where you can learn more about the urban wildlife of the Cody Dock area.

10 am, Marvellous Moths: We’ll check our light trap to see what moths were flying around Cody Dock the night before. There will also be a short talk on moths and how to record them.

11 am, Bird Walk – A relaxed Cody Wilds river path walk along which we will take in river and garden birds alike. We have some spare binoculars which can be loaned on a first-come-first-served basis.

12 pm, Wonderful Wildflowers – We’ll investigate the wildflowers growing along Cody Wilds.

1 pm, Looking for Ladybirds – Meet at Memorial Park where we will see how many of the 47 different UK ladybird species we can find.

2 pm, Pollinators Walk – What pollinators (Bees, Hoverflies and Butterflies) will we be able to find at Cody Dock and learn what can we do to protect them?

3 pm, Minibeast Safari – A short walk from Cody Dock, we will search the Wild Crescent for all manner of invertebrate minibeasts.

Suitable for all ages. No experience necessary.
