Spring Forward with Cody Dock

Welcome the change in season with Spring Forward at Cody Dock, a celebratory day of arts workshops, community science activities, a foraging walk and live music. There will be a choral performance by Star Primary School at 3pm and our first rolling of the Cody Dock Rolling Bridge this year. Refreshments and food from the Riverside Cafe will be available to enjoy. Please come and join us for a joyful day of making, exploring and dancing!

Here is our action-packed plan for the day:

Therapeutic Garden centre designed by Students

11am – 12pm

Meet the brilliant Westminster University architecture students who have designed our new therapeutic garden hub, currently in construction. Pick their brains about their plans for a sustainable community garden. 

Community Science

Our resident biodiversity expert Gino will be leading two amazing activities:

Mini BioBlitz drop-in

1pm – 3 pm

Help us discover and record all the different wildlife in and around Cody Dock, from plants, fungi and lichens, to insects, birds. You will need a smart phone with a camera and the iNaturalist app already downloaded in advance of this event – full instruction on how to use the app will be provided on the day.

Bird walk

4pm – 5 pm

Join us for a relaxed bird walk along the tidal Lea and through some of the surrounding green spaces near Cody Dock.

Educational Activity drop-in

1pm – 4pm

Evie our eco-education wizard, will show you how to create a nature journal, as well as how to make your very own bird feeder. 

Clay workshop

Have you felt intimidated to try ceramics in a traditional studio? With the magical Esther, a ceramic student at RCA, you will make free form, imaginative pieces using fast drying clay outdoors. 

Tote bag customising workshop

Come and discover the wonders of UV cyanotype photography and make a unique tote bag! Why not use foraged material to create an entirely unique new accessory.

Foraging Walk

2 – 3pm

Join Julia, our resident forager and herbalist, on a walk through Cody Dock and Cody Wilds to discover the potential of urban greenspaces. Get info, and advice on the dos and don’ts of urban foraging. 

Bridge Rolling

Have you ever seen a bridge roll? The Cody Dock Rolling Bridge has been shortlisted for the 2023 Bridge Awards: to commemorate this very exciting moment we will be proudly rolling the bridge for the first time this year!

Dock Restoration Tours

1pm – 4pm

Go on a journey behind the scenes and explore the last brick-lined dock in London! Join Wolfgang, our restoration manager, to hear about the work being done to restore it. Tours will run on the hour from 1pm – 4pm.

Photography Exhibition

Check out the twelve winning entries from our 2022 ‘Your River Lea’ photography competition displayed overlooking the River Lea. We are now accepting entries for this year – so don’t hesitate to document your visit to Cody Dock!

Riverside Cafe will be open throughout the event serving refreshing drinks, delicious coffee and warm food with plenty of vegan and halal options.

Why not visit the small pop up bar for a refreshing drink? Offering a range of alcoholic beverages from beers and ciders to wines, and for those who don’t drink, a range of delicious soft drinks will be available!
