Cody Dock’s Community Gardener Vicky Maddox and long-standing volunteer Siobhan Stewart  at the RHS Britain in Bloom awards 2018 proudly collect a coveted London in Bloom Gold Award AND a Level 5 –  Outstanding It’s Your Neighbourhood Award on behalf of the Cody Road and South Crescent in Bloom Business Group.

This group is made up of local businesses, community volunteers and others, who have worked alongside our team at Cody Dock to clear rubbish, transform previously unused space into garden areas and encourage the re-wilding of areas of South Crescent and Cody Road through the creation and maintenance of wildlife habitats.

Organisations involved in improving habitat and conserving wildlife on the Cody Road Industrial Estate in North Canning Town include:

Union Hand Roasted Coffee, Bywaters, Thames Water, IOD Skip Hire, Star Primary School, London Ambulance Service,  Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer  , Thames Tideway, London Community Rehabilitation Company and Balfour Beatty.

RHS judge, Lois Amos  said, “Wow! What an amazing garden and community project, rising like a phoenix from half a century of rubbish and detritus left by the City’s declining industrial past… Corporate and other volunteers have worked exceptionally hard to create a pleasing walk through the woodland glades. An area good for biodiversity and for people”.

We’re looking forward to continue the improvements over the coming months and years and bringing even more local businesses, residents and other members of the community into the fold.
Next steps including involving local children and businesses in making bat boxes to help protect the habitat of the four bat species living on the industrial estate
